Bryan Bedford – President & CEO
Bryan Bedford has more than 30 years of experience in the airline industry. He joined Republic in July 1999 as president and CEO. Previously, he served as President and CEO of Mesaba Holdings, Inc. in Minneapolis, MN, and Business Express Airlines, Inc. in Boston, MA. During his years at the helm of Republic, the airline has grown from $85 million in revenues and 36 turboprop aircraft to more than $1.3 billion in revenues and an operating fleet of nearly 190 aircraft.
In 1997 and again in 2004, Regional Airline World named him Airline Executive of the Year. In 2009, he was given the same honor by Airline Business. In 1998, the Minneapolis Business Journal named Mr. Bedford to its 40 under 40 list and in 2000 The Indianapolis Business Journal again named him to their 40 under 40 list. Mr. Bedford earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Florida State University and is a certified public accountant. Mr. Bedford holds a commercial, multi-engine and instrument pilot rating.
John Fleming has served as an independent director on Republic’s Board since May 2017, and is a member of the Audit Committee. Mr. Fleming is a 40-year veteran of the automotive industry, where he served as Ford Motor Co.’s executive vice president of global manufacturing & labor affairs. During his time at Ford he also served as chairman of the Board of Ford Europe GmbH, and also served as its chief executive officer. Mr. Fleming continues to advance the automotive industry with a focus on electrification and autonomous driving, and serves on the mobility team of the global growth consulting and partnership company Frost & Sullivan. He holds an honorary degree from John Moores University in Liverpool, England.
Lori Gobillot has served as an independent director of Republic’s Board since May 2017 and as the chairperson of the Compensation Committee for the same period. She also serves as a director of Magellan Midstream Partners, L.P. and as a director of Bristow Group Inc. Ms. Gobillot has over a decade of aviation experience, serving as vice president, integration management at United Airlines, Inc. where she managed the company’s merger integration planning and implementation efforts following the merger with Continental Airlines, Inc. Prior to the merger, Ms. Gobillot served as staff vice president, assistant general counsel and assistant secretary of Continental since 2006. Before joining Continental, Ms. Gobillot was an attorney with the law firm of Vinson & Elkins. Prior to attending law school, she worked in real estate development with Trammell Crow Company and as a consultant with Arthur Andersen.
David Grizzle has served as an independent director of Republic’s Board since May 2017, and as the chairman of the Board for the same period. Mr. Grizzle currently heads a government affairs consulting practice where he brings to bear experience in both the private and public sector. Most recently, Mr. Grizzle has served as the chief operating officer of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Air Traffic Organization. In this role he led the FAA’s 33,000 professional controllers, technicians, engineers and support personnel who are responsible for keeping air traffic moving safely and efficiently. Prior to the FAA, Mr. Grizzle was with Continental Airlines, Inc. and its affiliates for 22 years, retiring as the senior vice president of Customer Experience. During a leave of absence from Continental starting in 2004, Grizzle served for 14 months with the U.S. Department of State in Kabul, Afghanistan, as attaché, senior advisor and coordinator for transportation and infrastructure.
Glenn Johnson has served as an independent director of Republic’s Board since May 2017, and as the chairman of the Audit committee for the same period. After a career spanning over 30 years, Mr. Johnson retired from Alaska Airlines as executive vice president of Alaska Airlines Group and president of Horizon Air Industries. During his time he also served as chief financial officer for Alaska Air Group, overseeing airport maintenance, services, and engineering. Mr. Johnson has also served as a trustee of Central Washington University, where he has focused on advancing the university’s aviation program. Mr. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Washington Michael G. Foster School of Business.
Barry Ridings has served as an independent director of Republic’s Board since May 2017, and is a member of the Compensation committee. Mr. Ridings has over 30 years of experience in restructuring companies. In 1999, he joined Lazard Freres & Co. LLC. as managing director and co-head of the firm’s restructuring advisory practice. Mr. Ridings later assumed the responsibility as the vice chair of U.S. investment banking at Lazard, and has extensive experience in high yield debt offerings, initial public offerings, secondary stock offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and opinion letters. Mr. Ridings is a graduate of Colgate University where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in religion and from Cornell University where he earned a master’s of business administration degree, and continues to serve as an active member of the advisory council.
Jim Sweetnam has served as an independent director of Republic’s Board since May 2017 and is a member of both the Audit and Compensation committees. Mr. Sweetnam has a diversified and wide-ranging track record within the manufacturing sector and is a faculty member of the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. Mr. Sweetnam also serves on the Boards of Directors for both LMI and SunCoke Energy. Previously, Mr. Sweetnam served as president and chief executive officer of Dana Holding Corporation from 2009 to 2010, and chief executive officer of the Truck Group at Eaton Corporation from 2001 to 2009. Mr. Sweetnam is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a bachelor’s of science degree in applied science and engineering and holds a master’s of business administration degree from Harvard Business School.
